Obviously, both of the above application methods require you to be in or living in Japan. Which makes it a bit odd for an "international" marathon.  I am trying to see if there is a way that a person can apply from overseas without the help of a third party.  At the moment, it looks like one's best bet would be to have a friend in Japan apply on your behalf through the post office or possibly you could use their address to make your account on Runnet.jp. I have talked to Runnet.jp over e-mail and they say it is ok for people living onverseas to use the addresses of friends or family living in Japan to register.

Some basic info on the event.

Ohotsuku - Abashiri Marathon

Another full marathon starts in Hokkaido. With a 6 hour time limit, pretty much anyone could finish it. The Ohotsuku - Abashiri Marathon will be held on September 27 (Sun), 2015. Get some new shoes, get some yak-trax, renew your gym membership and let's get that base training started! ('Cause I'm all about that base!) This falls on the weekend before the Betsukai Pilot Marathon, which is convenient for me because there are always a lot of events on the first weekend in October (Ikeda Wine Festival anyone?).

Hokkaido Marathon

This year I finally gone and done it!  I registered for the Hokkaido Marathon, the biggest and most famous marathon in Hokkaido.  I got my registration done around 4pm and the registration closed later that day when all the slots were filled!  Yes, they filled over 10,000 entry slots in one day!

I have been on a vacation from running due to a sore leg that won't get better.  I'm giving it 6 weeks to get better before I start training for the Hokkaido Marathon.

The Hokkaido Marathon is on the last Sunday in August on the twenty-fifth.  It is always a hot marathon, usually with the temperature hitting 28 degrees celsius or higher.  This will be a tough challenge for me just to prepare for and finish the race.  Even if my leg was 100% it would still be a difficult race for me to finish.  But, since we now have family living in Sapporo, we decided to go for it this year.  By "we" I mean myself and my mother in-law.

Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up.
It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running."
