One of the most popular and celebrated ultra-marathons in Japan.
Run with close to 5000 others around the beautiful Saroma Lake.

The last Sunday in June.

This is a fantastic event and I can't say enough about it. There are so many people on the course that you are almost never running alone. That alone helps a lot. There is either a water stop or a water and food stop every 2.5km. The support of the other runners and of all the volunteers on the course is phenomenal. This is one of the most famous and well attended ulras in Japan for good reason.

People who have completed this ultra 10 times get preferred treatment. If you are in Japan for the long haul, why not give it a try in 2011 or 2012?

Shikaoi Trail Run

Just the other day I got word of yet another Trail race. This time in Shikaoi.

The first ever Shikaoi Trail Run （第一回しかおいトレイルラン）will be held on November 3rd.

The application deadline was extended from 10/15 to 10/20 and I heard about it on 10/19 and sent in my application on 10/20. So I HOPE I got applied for it.

It is a out and back course on a trail used for horse trekking and involves 3 river crossings. But from what I read over at Ogaman's blog, the rivers are really only trickles of water ankle deep. Sounds fun!

I have put it on my calendar and will be sure to look out for it for next year so you apply for and run in the 2nd Shikaoi Trail Run, if there is one.

The race is held at the Nishikami Kanko Noen, which looks like a "tourist" farm? I'm not sure how to translate it but I know what it is.

The Kogarashi Half Marathon also has 10k and 5k events and 3k and 2k events for children will be held on October 24th at the Nissan Test Track.

Mokotoyama - Kusharo Lake Trail Run

I just got wind of a trail run held at Kusharo Lake north of Kushiro.  It is too late to join the event this year but if they do it again next year I'll be there for sure!
